Announcement – April 21, 2020

Dear Auburn Church Family,

The day after Gov. Brian Kemp announced certain businesses will be able to reopen as early as Friday, Georgia saw an increase of nearly 1,000 new cases of the coronavirus.

According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, as of Tuesday at noon, there have been 799 deaths, 19,881 cases, and 3,779 hospitalizations in Georgia. Deaths make up 4.02 percent of Georgia cases. From the numbers released at noon on Monday, this is an increase of 934 cases, 229 hospitalizations and 66 deaths.

Gov. Kemp acknowledged Monday there is a risk as the state starts allowing certain businesses to reopen Friday, even as Georgia nears 20,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, leaving many concerned.

The governor spelled out a timeline for many types of businesses — from hair salons to restaurants and movie theaters — as well as churches to reopen to gatherings.

For places of worship, Gov. Kemp said in-person services will now be allowed but by following strict social distancing protocols.

“I urge faith leaders to continue to help us in this effort, to keep their congregation safe by heeding the advice of public health officials,” Gov. Kemp said. “Of course, online, call-in and drive-in services remain good options for religious institutions.”

At the Auburn Church, our preferred mode of operation at the present time is to promote the live-streaming Adult Sabbath School class and the worship service along with the Tiny Tots Sabbath School on ZOOM.  Those involved with programming will certainly need to be present and they continue to observe the social distancing protocols.  We encourage our members to attend from home through live-streaming.  However, if you choose to worship with us in-person, you will be welcomed.  We only ask that you please also observe the social distancing protocol which is the six-foot space between persons unless you are from the same family, in which case you may sit together.

This coming Sabbath, April 25, Bert Falls will be the worship hour speaker.  Tiny Tots and Adult Sabbath School will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by the worship service.

Sabbath, May 2, Pastor Richard Pinero, Southern Region Ministerial Director for the Georgia-Cumberland Conference will be the guest speaker for the worship service.  Although Pastor Joseph Carty and his family will not be present, Pastor Pinero will give us an introduction to our new pastor, Joseph Carty, his wife Raluca, and their two young daughters who will be joining the Auburn Church from North Platte, Nebraska in the near future.  Be sure to tune in Sabbath, May 2, to learn all about them.
